Firearms, Ballistics, and Other Impression
- The Malcolm Fairley case did involve firearms and ballistics, however the shotgun used and found as evidence in this case was stolen from a previous burglary committed by Fairley.
- During Fairleys series of burglaries his firearm or the shotgun was only used to threaten and end any protestation by his captives.
- Because the firearm was never actually used to trigger a target there was no need for extra investigation on any weapons may have been used by Fairley.
- In Fairleys final burglary the shotgun and other pieces of evidence were found buried in the dirt by a passerby who also saw the tire marks left from his car.
- Although the tire mark imprint left in the ground was not really able to help investigators necessarily find Fairley they were able to conclude what type of vehicle he was driving that night.
- Fairley did travel by foot through many fielded areas but there were no shoe prints found to help find potential suspects
